Board approves variance for privacy gate and brick posts at 3811 South Culver House

The Jonesboro Board of Zoning Appeals on Oct. 27 granted a variance to allow a privacy gate and brick columns at 3811 South Culver House. The applicant, Mr. Wilcox, said the home sits roughly 800 feet from the road and requested to set the gate back about 25 to 50 feet from the street.
Wilcox described the proposed gate as a custom powder-coated steel double gate about 7 to 8 feet tall with two brick posts and coach lights, and said the gate would have a separate electric meter and cameras for security. He told the board he wanted the gate to deter trespassing and that he and neighbors had observed trespassers on the property.
Wilcox also said there is precedent in the neighborhood: during a site drive, he counted seven double gates over 8 feet tall on the west side of Culver House. A board member moved to approve the variance based on the neighborhood context and the proposed setback, and the motion passed on a roll call: Miles, yes; Bailey, yes; Capels, yes.
The board recorded no additional conditions beyond the variance approval. Wilcox thanked the board after the vote.
