Tehachapi council honors Tehachapi High Warrior cheerleaders for national titles

Community engagement director Budge opened the council meeting by asking the mayor and council to recognize members of the Tehachapi High School Warrior show cheer team for national competition results.

Head coach Janice Looper, who accepted the invitation to speak, described the team’s season and schedule and reviewed results from regional, state and national competitions. "These girls work so hard," Looper said, noting tryouts in April, practice beginning in June, fundraising starting in May and a routine of three practices per week through the season. She said the team swept three regional competitions, placed third at their CIF section competition and — for the first time for the school — finished third at CIF state. At USA Spirit Nationals, Looper said the team placed first on day one with a "96 flat" score and advanced to day two, where they finished the competition with a 96.2.

Council members and the mayor offered congratulations in remarks after the presentation. Council members praised the athletes’ dedication and families’ support; one council member highlighted the team’s academic checks, noting weekly grade reviews and the policy that athletes with missing assignments or an F do not cheer that week. The council presented a certificate of recognition that commended the team’s first-place win at the 2025 USA Spirit Nationals (show cheer division) and its third-place finish in the game-day fight song division.
