According to a county proclamation read at the meeting, Deputy Aleman, while off duty and returning home from a tour of duty, observed a mobile home fully engulfed in flames in McAllen. Bystanders told him the mobile home was occupied by a disabled elderly male. The proclamation and citation say Deputy Aleman entered the burning mobile home and extracted the occupant, actions the county described as “conspicuous gallantry and extraordinary heroism.” The citation reads that his conduct “undoubtedly saved the life of the elderly male.”
The McAllen Fire Department presented a meritorious-action award replica to Deputy Aleman and praised his actions during remarks at the dais. Members of the public, family and department leadership attended. The sheriff’s office and county read formal language commending Aleman’s actions and recorded the court’s unanimous approval of the proclamation and citation.
Deputy Aleman spoke briefly and thanked those in attendance; the rescued man also addressed the court and expressed gratitude. The court’s action was ceremonial and the transcript records staff and elected officials praising the deputy and honoring his bravery.
