City staff updated the City of Bryan council on the Mumford Road widening project and the funding package for the development corridor.
Staff said the most recent estimate for the Mumford Road widening is about $8.4 million. The project has a not-to-exceed $4.5 million reimbursement identified from the Brazos County Economic Development Fund (EDF) and an Economic Development Administration grant of roughly $1.75 million; the remaining portion would be the city's funding. Formal bids have not yet been issued.
City staff explained the road work is part of a broader development push in the corridor and was a condition tied to private investment in the area. The widening will extend north from FM 2818 toward Carrier Lane and is intended to support several new and planned developments the city described, including a Brown Oak project and a Master Brick development, existing businesses and the CTE campus operated by the school district.
Council members asked for clarifications about the route and whether the project extended toward Lake Bryan; staff confirmed the work will proceed north from FM 2818 toward Carrier Lane and Lake Bryan is north of 2818. Staff said much of the corridor had been sold or committed and that only one tract remained available for sale in the immediate development area.
Staff reiterated the city is close to issuing bid documents and that the $8.4 million figure is an estimate pending bid results. No formal action was taken at the workshop.
