Walker also explained a budget presentation change from the previous session: the public works fee line previously included in NSHE maintenance projects was removed because NSHE institutions already pay permit fees directly to the state building official and Public Works determined the separate internal fee line had effectively been unused and risked a double accounting. Walker told the committee the fee was not charged twice to NSHE, but the line item was removed this session to avoid redundancy.
Outlook: The subcommittee did not take action; committee members asked clarifying questions about internal charges and the division said it would proceed with the recommended structure and NSHE institutions would continue to apply for building permits and pay the standard permit fees when required.
