County approves 2023 EMPG grant agreement to fund emergency management staffing

Emergency manager Jody presented the agreement and explained the grant covers duties required of the county emergency manager. The grant requires a local match, which Polk County applies via salary and benefits for the emergency manager and supporting staff. Jody said all required grant functions for 2023 were completed except for the final financial report, which can only be submitted after the county signs the grant agreement.
Commissioners voted to approve and sign the agreement; a boardmember commented, “Take the free money,” and the motion carried by voice vote. The county will finalize the financial report after the signed agreement is returned.
