Ellis County OKs $54,504 purchase of Stryker cot and power-load for EMS

The Ellis County Commission voted 3-0 on March 18 to approve purchase order (PO) 7910 for $54,504.21 to buy one Stryker Power Pro cot and one Stryker Power-Load for Ellis County EMS.
Danita (Danita) Schroeder, identified in the meeting as the Ellis County EMS director, told commissioners the equipment was expected earlier in the year but shipment delays have pushed delivery to July. Schroeder said the department plans to use a donation fund from the Jack Samples estate — the donors requested the money be used for equipment purchases — to pay for the cot and loading system.
Schroeder explained the county’s current cots include units from 2018 that are nearing the end of their serviceable life and that newer cot models use a different battery system. She said the department chose to buy the current generation model now to preserve compatibility with existing batteries and attachments.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the motion passed with all commissioners voting in favor.
What this means: EMS will receive a compatible cot and power-load system that public-safety staff say will avoid having mixed, incompatible battery systems across the ambulance fleet. Delivery is expected in July, per Schroeder’s update to the commission.
