Meeker County commissioners approve consent agenda, MnDOT advanced-construction agreement and equipment purchases; back Clay County letter of support

The board approved the agenda (with an addition) by motion from Commissioner Schmidt and second from Commissioner Santi. Commissioners then approved the consent agenda, moved by Commissioner Schmidt and seconded by Commissioner Rolberg.
The consent agenda contained multiple items the board approved in a single vote: approval of the March 4 board meeting minutes; approval of Health & Human Services, county and hospital accounts payable; approval of a contract with WaterGuard, LLC for watercraft inspections; approval of a donation to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for a mini BIF at Lake Manuela; approval of club-on-sale liquor-license renewal for the Cedar Mills Gun Club; approval of a consumption-display permit renewal for Riverside Store and Tavern; approval of a temporary on-sale liquor license for the Darwin Rotten Gun Club; and a resolution authorizing sponsorship of off-highway-vehicle trail funding.
Commissioners took a roll-call vote on the OHV resolution as required and the motion carried. Recorded votes for that resolution were: Commissioner Oberg — yes; Commissioner Van Ort — yes; Commissioner Schmidt — yes; Commissioner Psaki — yes; Commissioner Johnson — yes.
Public Works brought three items later in the meeting:
- The board approved an advanced-construction agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation for the Cassatt 3 project (federal funding of just over $3,000,000 on an estimated $4,000,000 project). Public Works Director Phil Small told the board that a small portion (about $55,000) would not be available until federal fiscal year 2026. Commissioner Schmidt moved the resolution; the board voted by roll call in favor.
- The board authorized the purchase of a Step Manufacturing 5-cubic-yard patch wagon under state bid for a not-to-exceed price of $170,000. The motion was moved and seconded on the floor and approved by voice vote.
- The board approved a revised total estimate of $331,976 to purchase two Western Star 47X plow trucks from Boyer Trucks (the final price exceeded an earlier not-to-exceed figure by about $2,000). Commissioners discussed supply-chain impacts and model-year increases before approving the purchase by voice vote.
Separately, the board approved a letter of support for Clay County’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility Project, which seeks state funds to renovate and expand juvenile psychiatric residential treatment capacity. Commissioner Schmidt moved the letter of support; Commissioner Van Ort seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
Other consent items noted in the meeting packet were accepted without separate debate. There was no county financial contribution tied to the Clay County letter; the board’s action was an expression of support only.
