Bangor City Council approved its consent agenda by unanimous consent at the March 17 meeting and adopted an ordinance rezoning a 7.93-acre parcel at 870 Broadway after a roll-call vote.
The consent agenda included multiple orders and resolutions authorizing grant acceptances, donations and program applications. Among those listed by the clerk were: an order to accept a $500 Rotary Club of Bangor breakfast grant for supplies for the city’s Post Pilot and rescue support group “Milk and Cookies”; a $2,000 Walmart Community Grant donation to fund training equipment for the police patrol K-9 unit; a memorandum of understanding with Wabanaki Public Health and Community Services for a syringe waste program; appointment of a constable for 2025; acknowledgement of official election results; applications for grants to the Maine Health Access Foundation and the John T. Gorman Foundation to address primary-care access and basic needs; an amendment to the City of Bangor remote meeting participation policy; and authorization for the city manager to file applications with the Federal Transit Administration under federal transportation statutes.
The council also referred an ordinance to amend Chapter 165 (Land Development Code) to rezone 44 Central Street from Urban Residence District to Downtown Development District to the planning board for review at its March 18 meeting.
On unfinished business, the council considered Ordinance 25-079 to rezone Map Lot R41-001-C at 870 Broadway from High Density Residential (HDR) to Shopping and Personal Service (S&PS). The clerk said the planning board had unanimously approved the change at its March 4 meeting and the property lies inside the 2022 comprehensive plan’s growth boundary. After discussion, the council completed a roll-call vote; the clerk recorded “yes” votes from Councilors Beck, Dean, Fish, Malvern and Campbell and announced the measure approved.
Votes at a glance: - Consent agenda: approved by unanimous consent; no roll-call recorded on individual items (orders listed by clerk during consent agenda). - 25-093 (44 Central Street rezoning): referred to planning board for hearing on 2025-03-18 (first reading/referral). - 25-079 (870 Broadway rezoning): adopted by roll call; clerk recorded affirmative votes from Councilors Beck, Dean, Fish, Malvern and Campbell; ordinance adopted.
The clerk provided the formal descriptions and identifiers for the consent items during the meeting and the planning board’s unanimous recommendation on 870 Broadway was noted in the council record. The council concluded the meeting immediately after final business and offered brief remarks and acknowledgments before adjournment.
