The budget announcement matters because the board said the levy increase would raise the average homeowner’s monthly school tax by about $21.90 based on Hoboken’s average assessed home value of $528,000. The board’s presentation also included an example that a home assessed at $1,100,000 would see a monthly increase of about $45.63.
Board President opened the meeting by saying the proposed budget represents a first pass from the superintendent, building principals and the business office and that the administration will continue to look for additional savings. The board set a public budget hearing for April 29, 2025, at 7 p.m., and scheduled the final board vote on the budget for May 13, 2025. There were no public comments at the meeting. The board moved and seconded approval of the consent agenda; the roll call recorded affirmative votes by board members present and the motion passed. The meeting closed without committee reports or additional business and adjourned.
The meeting opened with a statement that it was being held in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6) and noted the session was being recorded for later broadcast on CATV channel 77 and Channel 46 and posted on the district’s BoardDocs page.
The meeting was brief: there were no superintendent or business administrator reports beyond confirming there was no additional report that evening, no public-comment speakers, and no executive session.
The tentative budget process remains open to revision between the introduction and the May 13 board vote. The April 29 hearing is the formal opportunity for the public to comment before the board’s final decision.
