SBA extends disaster-assistance deadline; city touts stadium groundbreaking and District South development

City and federal officials gave multiple announcements at the March 17 Mauldin City Council meeting: the Small Business Administration reopened a disaster-assistance application deadline for physical damage, and city staff reported on a stadium groundbreaking and a large new development called District South.
Small Business Administration: An SBA representative identified as Ms. Green told the council the deadline to apply for disaster assistance related to Hurricane Helena had been reopened to April 27, 2025 for physical damage. She said homeowners, renters and businesses are eligible for physical-damage assistance; businesses and nonprofits may also apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan if they suffered revenue loss even without physical damage. Green asked the city to share the digital information she provided so residents and businesses know how to apply.
Stadium and development updates: City Administrator Duncan reported that the City of Mauldin, Hughes Investments and Greenville Pro Soccer broke ground on a new stadium at Bridgeway Station the prior week. He said soccer legend and Greenville Triumph co-owner Ronaldinho Gaucho made a special appearance and that approximately 1,000 people attended. The stadium is slated to open in 2026 and will be the Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty's permanent home; the operator will develop operations plans for parking, pedestrian safety, traffic flow and shuttling for events.
Duncan also reported on District South, a development planned near Tanner Road and Burton Road off Woodruff that will include about 450 residential units (a mix of apartments, townhomes and carriage homes), 16,000 square feet of workspace, a pool and clubhouse, and is expected to be completed in March 2027. He directed interested residents to the developer's website listed in his remarks for more information.
No council action was required on any of these announcements at the March 17 meeting.
