The Angola Common Council on March 17 gave the mayor permission to continue negotiations to purchase a piece of property in the Fairhaven development, after staff reported two appraisals and ongoing uncertainty about the parcel’s legal description.
The mayor said he has had conversations with the property owner who is “willing to sell it for less than the average of the two appraisals,” and asked the council to authorize moving forward to finalize a contract. Council members approved the motion by voice vote.
City staff cautioned that the property’s metes‑and‑bounds description is unclear because the parcel was previously subdivided and sold in portions. The administration said it will complete a survey, confirm the legal description and return to the council if additional approval steps are required before closing.
No purchase price was presented at the meeting; staff said the final negotiated price will be less than the average of the two appraisals and that the city will obtain a survey as a condition to finalize a contract.
