Scott Crowell, a Redondo Beach resident, told the Public Safety Commission on March 17 that motorists frequently fail to stop at the intersection of Avenue G and Palos Verdes Boulevard, creating safety hazards for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Crowell said he filed a Comcast service request about the intersection in May 2024 and that a July 2024 resident survey about installing a four-way stop "failed" because it did not receive enough support. "This makes it almost impossible to get out at Avenue G during morning and evening rush hours," Crowell told the commission. He described near-misses involving runners and walkers on the uphill approach from Pacific Coast Highway.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the exact location and the earlier resident poll. Crowell said Avenue F and Avenue G are residential streets serving Peninsula neighborhoods, and that motorists use the corridor as a cut-through to the freeways. Commissioners and staff noted that earlier traffic-calming proposals and a resident survey had been pursued but had not led to a change.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; commissioners requested that staff note the complaint and that the commission continue to monitor traffic-safety items on its agenda. The comment was recorded during the public participation portion of the March 17 meeting.
