Bethlehem Area School District recognizes National Merit semifinalist and commended students

The Bethlehem Area School District Board of Education recognized three students March 17 for achievement in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Levi Carl of Liberty High School was recognized as a National Merit semifinalist. Two Liberty-area students, Stephanie Zhang (Liberty High School) and Sofia Dubrovskaya (Freedom High School), were named commended students; Sofia Dubrovskaya was not present at the meeting. Administrators asked the students to step forward to receive certificates and for photographs.
Board and administrative remarks summarized National Merit program figures presented at the meeting: of the roughly 1.5 million students who took the PSAT, about 50,000 were recognized as high scorers; roughly 34,000 were commended students and about 16,000 were semifinalists. The district noted that one senior was named a semifinalist and two were commended in the program this year.
"Congratulations to our National Merit Scholars," a board member said following the recognitions.
The board held the recognition early in the meeting; the presentation included certificate distribution and photos for the students who were able to attend.
