The Columbus County Board of Commissioners approved a facility-use agreement allowing outside entities to use the gymnasium at Guideway School provided they present proof of insurance that names the county as an additional insured.
County Attorney Amanda Prince told the board another entity had expressed interest in using the gymnasium but that she would like time to meet with the interested groups to work out a single memorandum of understanding (MOU) covering schedules and responsibilities. Commissioners agreed to allow immediate use if the entity could provide insurance before beginning practice; the board approved the request by motion and second and directed attorney and staff to finalize an overarching MOU for future use schedules.
Commissioners discussed several interested groups, including one named "Carolina Pistols," and clarified that the name referred to a sports program rather than firearms activity. The county did not set a fee schedule in tonight's action; staff were instructed to seek proof of insurance and work toward a formal MOU among parties.
