Columbus County commissioners approved a slate of financial and procurement actions covering capital purchases, grant reallocations and a salary adjustment.
Interim Finance Director Heather Woody summarized the items in a single motion. Among the approvals recorded were: a $46,660 purchase order for an HVAC system from Pridgen Brothers for facilities services (prebudgeted in FY24-25); a purchase/quote of $23,218 (vendor quote $21,750 before sales tax) for a utility vehicle for landfill operations; and budget amendments and a capital project ordinance related to an EMS capacity-building grant intended to place permanent generators at school locations for storm resiliency. Commissioners also approved various other departmental budget amendments and purchase orders and approved a modest salary adjustment to raise the starting pay for a senior telecommunicator position to allow an internal promotion (an annualized difference of $2,107.80, effective March 21 for pay-period purposes).
The board also approved the Department of Aging's acceptance of $51,463.36 in state financial recovery and home improvement grant funds intended to assist individuals and families at risk of homelessness due to the COVID-19 pandemic; grant funds will be used for utility assistance, minor and major home repairs, mobility/accessibility improvements and allowable administrative costs with no county match required.
Commissioners approved the consolidated financial items by motion and voice vote. Staff said they would finalize purchase orders and track grant reporting and procurement compliance as required.
