Commissioner Joel Byrd seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote.
The decision followed public interest in the item. County Attorney Amanda Prince told the meeting that members of the public who wished to comment on the campground-related item could do so at the planning board meeting set for the 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the same room. The board provided the public the option to address the ordinance at tonight's meeting or wait to speak to the planning board.
Commissioners said the item had drawn concern among residents who said the draft rules would limit the rights of people who live in campers. Bullard said many people in the county live in these campers and asked for a better solution that protected both property rights and community standards. There was no vote recorded tonight on the content of the ordinance itself.
The planning board meeting was announced as the venue for substantive public comment and potential revision. The board did not set a new schedule for further consideration beyond referring the item back to planning staff and the planning board.
