Council approves no‑cost weather sensor installation at Unity Park for educational and operational data

Argyle Town Council approved a no‑cost initiative with True Weather Solutions on March 17 to install weather sensors at Unity Park, subject to final contract review by the town attorney. The town will not pay for equipment or installation; True Weather will provide complimentary access to collected data via its VThrix 360 platform and offered 20 user logins for local schoolteachers.

Councilmember Jessica presented the initiative, saying the system includes a METEO helix and METEO wind sensor package mounted on a light pole at Unity Park. The company and speaker said the sensors are small and designed to be unobtrusive; specifications in the meeting packet indicated the sensors are roughly 6 inches in diameter and weigh about half a pound.

True Weather representatives described uses for the data: local STEM education opportunities for LISD/AISD teachers, improved real‑time weather information for park operations and potential benefits to regional air‑mobility and autonomous vehicle operations that rely on road and aerial weather data.

Council asked whether the town should seek compensation for data it permits a private vendor to collect. Presenter Jessica said True Weather offered the system at no cost in exchange for siting permission and that the company agreed to provide 20 teacher logins and to meet insurance requirements. Council members asked staff to have the town attorney add government‑specific contract language and to discuss whether the town’s website could host a public link to some or all of the data; the presenter noted a paragraph in the draft contract restricted general public sharing unless agreed in advance.

Council approved the initiative with direction that the agreement be completed in a final form approved by the town attorney. Council members praised the potential STEM uses for local schools and the no‑cost arrangement.
