The Bangor City Finance Committee on March 17 voted to approve the purchase of two new patrol SUVs for the police department through the State of Maine master bid agreement with Darling's Ford.
Finance Director David Little told the committee the two Ford Explorer vehicles are priced at $50,509 each for a total of $101,018 and that the police department had budgeted $189,000 in its capital plan to replace patrol vehicles this year. Little said the city periodically “piggyback[s] on a state contract” to secure better pricing and to avoid the expense of running a separate bid.
Committee members moved and seconded the recommendation and the committee approved moving forward with the purchase. The vehicles will be paid from the police capital replacement budget, which Little said can cover the expense.
The committee did not record a roll-call vote tally in the meeting transcript. No additional conditions or amendments were attached to the approval.
