Residents report sparse visible police presence; board urges use of 311 and coordination with precincts

Several board members described local concerns about late-night loitering, package theft and what they perceived as limited visible police patrols in parts of the district.
"There's a lot of concern about... people boarding up...the streets are totally desolate," one member said, reporting increased boarding, package robberies and tenant warnings circulated by management companies. Mike Levin (resident/board participant) said he saw little police presence late at night on Sixth Avenue and recommended more visible patrols.
Staff said they had spoken with local detectives and that some enforcement units were active in unmarked cars and black vans. "Detective Jackson was very clear to say we have not had any incidents," Carter reported after a call with police, while also noting that officers in unmarked cars and the strategic response group had been seen on Broadway.
Members urged neighbors to report concerns via 311 for non-emergencies and 911 for crimes in progress. "311 is the eyes and ears," one participant said, and staff said that 311 reports produced a rapid response in at least one instance.
No formal board action or vote was taken; members requested staff contact precinct leadership to discuss visible patrols and neighborhood outreach.
