The committee paused its bike-network discussion to hear public comment about Citi Bike supply and station capacity. Shirley (chair, Manhattan Community Board 2 Traffic and Transportation Committee) relayed the committee
Several attendees said Citi Bike docks were emptier than usual and recommended that the city and the system operator rebalance bikes more often to reflect a surge in short trips and essential-worker commutes. The board did not receive a presentation from Citi Bike staff and no vote occurred. Instead, the committee agreed to include a request to the city in upcoming draft language urging more frequent rebalancing and coverage in neighborhoods experiencing increased ridership.
Mark Dicus (SoHo Broadway Initiative) and other business representatives said additional docking capacity and better distribution would help residents and workers avoid transit crowds and reduce pressure on retail corridors if more people choose cycling over subway travel. Committee members suggested the request should ask DOT and the city to monitor station-level usage and prioritize reallocation to areas of increased demand.
