A contractor update on the River City construction project presented to the Coffey County Commission said interior finishes are largely complete in many areas and that site and systems start-up will continue through late spring.
The contractor reported that Level 2 flooring is nearly finished, with remaining vinyl tile and wall base work in the north elevator lobby. On Level 1 the booking and holding areas are being secured with glazing in cell doors and hardware installation; once those elements are complete the contractor said those rooms will be sealed and ready for turnover. Kitchen ceiling and epoxy-floor work are slated to follow completion of nearby ceiling grid work.
Security, controls and the jail subcontractor remain on site to finish wiring, door hardware integration and final testing; the contractor said those teams will remain through start-up and owner training. Site work is moving forward: curb, gutter and sidewalks on the south side are scheduled to begin, trailers are being removed and the contractor expects angled parking and the new parking-lot layout to be installed in the coming weeks. The contractor said start-up and commissioning of systems is scheduled for mid to late April into early May, with owner training to follow.
Why it matters: The update covers the county's replacement facility progress, schedule for occupancy-related systems testing and the projected calendar for site improvements that affect public access and parking.
Project status and schedule highlights - Level 2: flooring largely complete; remaining wall base and finish painting to be finished shortly. - Level 1 booking: glazing installed in holding cell doors and door hardware being fitted so cells can be secured for turnover. - Level 1 kitchen: ceiling work to be completed then epoxy flooring and kitchen equipment installation will follow. - Security/integrated controls: subcontractor PolyJail (referred to in the update) is on site for final wiring, control integration, operations testing and training. - Site work: curb, gutter and sidewalks scheduled to begin on the south side; trailers removed this week to allow pavement work and angled parking installation. - Schedule: contractor indicated system start-up and owner training planned mid-late April into early May.
What the record shows: The presentation was given during the agenda's construction update slot and included a walkthrough of floors, ceiling, casework, door hardware, glazing and the sequencing for site and parking changes. The contractor emphasized the next several months as a period of intense start-up and commissioning work.
