Greene County proclaims March Social Work Month

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on Monday adopted a proclamation declaring March Social Work Month.
The proclamation, read aloud by a presenter at the meeting, said social workers “generally care about helping improve the welfare of families, communities, and our nation,” and cited the profession’s role in schools, hospitals, veteran centers and government agencies. The document identified this year’s theme as “Social Work: Compassion + Action” and said social workers help address mental health, substance-use treatment and other community needs.
Commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote. The presenter thanked the board after the vote.
The proclamation text discussed the scale and growth of the profession and the contribution of social workers to policies such as Social Security and minimum wage, as described to commissioners. It also encouraged Greene County to join the National Association of Social Workers in recognizing the month.
The proclamation was placed on the consent/regular business agenda and carried by voice vote; commissioners gave no further direction and no implementation tasks or funding were attached to the proclamation.
