Council passes routine governance items and adopts investment policy; nominations sent to appraisal district ballot

The City Council of Alice took several formal actions at its Oct. 14 meeting, all recorded on the consent or individual-consideration portions of the agenda.

- The council approved the consent agenda, including minutes from the Sept. 16, 2025 council meeting. A motion to approve the consent agenda received a second and was approved on voice vote.

- The council voted to nominate Noel Atkinson to appear on the official ballot for the Jim Wells County Appraisal District Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term. A council member made the motion to nominate Noel Atkinson, the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.

- Council adopted an ordinance appointing members to the Board of Directors for Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 3 (Saddle Creek Development). Staff explained the ordinance identifies offices and appointee slots (mayor, council places, county commissioners, and designees from the state senator and representative) and that some individual appointee names will be filled later. The council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by voice vote.

- The council adopted a resolution approving the city's written policy for the investment of public funds in compliance with the Public Funds Investment Act, Texas Government Code chapter 2256. Staff told the council they will return in November if they decide to add an addendum addressing recently enacted state allowance for certain cryptocurrency funds; the motion to adopt the resolution passed by voice vote.

All motions recorded in the meeting were made, seconded and carried on voice votes with no recorded objections in the meeting record.
