City recognizes parks and fire employees for life-saving response to co-worker's medical emergency

City of Alice staff presented certificates on Oct. 14 to employees who responded to a life-threatening medical emergency at a city park on Sept. 23.
Melissa Perez, the city representative who presented the recognitions, said parks employee Gregorio Cruz, firefighters Steven Robertson and an absent parks employee, Joseph Champine, took swift action during the on-duty emergency. Perez said the injured employee, identified in the meeting as Reynaldo Bueno, is recovering and receiving therapy; his family attended the council meeting.
Perez read certificates that recognized "quick thinking and prompt action" in assisting a fellow employee during the Sept. 23 emergency. She thanked the parks and fire departments and asked the council to join in publicly acknowledging the employees.
Council members and staff posed for photographs and offered personal thanks. Perez said she would ensure the absent employee, Joseph Champine, also receives recognition from the fire chief.
