Councilmember urges quick action opposing SB 79 over potential upzoning near transit

He said the bill also contains related provisions that could remove certain local design review constraints near transit and could give transit agencies expanded control over land adjacent to their facilities.
Councilmembers raised concerns that SB 79, if passed in the Assembly, could drastically alter local zoning near the Lafayette BART station and other transit stops. The speaker called for a “full court press” to defeat the bill in the Assembly and urged staff to prepare a letter to the local Assemblymember, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, and to work with councils in neighboring cities such as Orinda and Moraga.
