The commission’s approval, moved by Commissioner Kirk and seconded by Commissioner Paul, adopted the staff-recommended conditions and added language giving the Town of Genoa oversight authority for exterior changes while excluding a separate requirement that the Genoa Historic District Commission review the parcel so long as the property remains zoned residential.
The permit allows Nevada State Parks to incorporate the 2,862-square-foot brick house, built in 1856, and adjoining orchard into the adjacent Mormon Station State Historic Park while the parcel remains zoned Single-Family Residential (SFR-1). Gavin Cackle of the Conservation Fund, which acquired the property on the last day of 2024, told the commission the Conservation Fund will transfer the property to the state after the special-use permit and removal of the parcel from the homeowners association.
