Nevada Senate advances batch of Assembly bills, concurs with amendments to two Senate bills

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Senate on May 31 advanced a group of Assembly bills to the general file, agreed to Assembly amendments to two Senate bills and appointed a conference committee for one measure, moving several items forward in the legislative process.
The Senate’s Commerce and Labor Committee reported back on three Assembly bills with a recommendation of “do pass.” "Mr. President, your committee on commerce and labor to which we're referred to Assembly bills numbers 404, 414, and 428 has had the same under consideration and begs leave to report the same back with the recommendation do passed," Committee Chair Senator Julie Pizzina said on the floor as she presented the committee’s report.
The Senate also placed a number of Assembly bills on the general file. At the request of Senator Cannizzaro, the chamber moved all bills that were on the general file for that agenda to the general file for the last agenda of the legislative day. The Senate ordered the following Assembly bills to the general file during the session: AB 234, AB 243, AB 326, AB 328, AB 463, AB 471, AB 597 and AB 600. Senator Cannizzaro additionally moved to withdraw Assembly Bill 388 from the Committee on Commerce and Labor and place it on the reading file; that motion carried.
The Senate voted to concur in Assembly amendments to two Senate bills. Senator Flores moved to concur in Assembly amendment No. 646 to Senate Bill 71; "The amendment eliminates a requirement that the Nevada System of Higher Education institutions provide certain mentoring to certain businesses participating in the Nevada GROW program," Flores said when explaining the amendment. The motion to concur carried by voice vote; the clerk announced the motion carried and that "the assembly is to be notified of our action."
Senator Flores also moved concurrence in Assembly concurrent amendment No. 737 to Senate Bill 447. Flores described the amendment as outlining "circumstances under which a party found to have legal standing by a court of competent jurisdiction may bring an action against a public body to obtain an alternate writ of mandamus related to the awarding of a contract." The motion to concur carried by voice vote, and the Senate notified the Assembly of its action.
The presiding officer appointed a conference committee to meet with a like committee from the Assembly on Senate Bill 352. "I will now appoint Senators Scheibel, Pizzina, and Ellison, as a conference committee to meet with the like committee of the Assembly for further consideration of Senate Bill number 352," the presiding officer said; the three senators were named on the record.
No roll-call tallies were announced for the voice votes recorded on the floor during the session. Many items on the day’s agenda were procedural readings or orders to the general file; the Assembly was to be notified of the Senate’s concurrence and committee appointments as appropriate.
