Montebello unveils FY25–26 capital improvement program with street, park and facility projects

City staff presented Montebello’s proposed fiscal year 2025–26 capital improvement program (CIP), detailing multiple street, park and facility projects intended to begin or move forward over the next 12–24 months.
Public Works Director Roldan gave a comprehensive update that listed completed FY24–25 projects and proposed FY25–26 work, including traffic signal upgrades, street resurfacing and pavement rehabilitation projects, the golf course renovation phase, the City Park baseball field renovations, and pool enhancements at George Hansell Aquatic Center.
Planned work includes a fence replacement project near the Rio Hondo channel (project CP884) with $935,000 from the State Department of Parks and Recreation and a proposed $300,000 from the city’s annual gas tax allocation; resurfacing and ADA improvements on major corridors including Whittier and Montebello Boulevards; a Bluff Road slope stabilization project coordinated with the Los Angeles County Flood Control District; and a downtown sewer replacement project with construction targeted for late 2025.
Other items highlighted were a fire station No. 56 roof and HVAC replacement (CP923), a senior center basement remodel (CP925), the Rio Hondo digital message sign (CP924-2), and an LED sign at City Hall (CP933). A SCAG grant of $362,500 will support CP930. The city also described a “charge-ready” EV charging pilot at City Hall with 34 ports at no capital cost to Montebello, and a roundabout and striping improvements in the Concourse area that have already been installed and are being monitored.
Director Roldan gave tentative schedules for design and construction phases, with many projects aiming for design completion in late 2025 and construction through 2026. Councilmembers praised the scope and asked that the CIP be posted to the city website for resident access. No legislative action was taken at the presentation; several projects will return to council for bid authorization or award.
