Summary
Parks & Recreation staff said Sahuarita will present a hybrid drone show with close-range pyrotechnics at Animax Park for July 4, using about 250 drones and a smaller on-site fireworks component to address safety and site constraints.
Sahuarita — Parks & Recreation Director Devin Stalder briefed the council on the town’s July 4 celebration plan: a hybrid display combining an expanded drone show with a smaller, close-range pyrotechnic element at Animax Park.
Stalder said the town reengaged its drone provider, OpenSky Drones, and will use approximately 250 drones; the provider now has equipment to emit configurable pyrotechnic effects from drones. For audience members at Animax Park, the town will supplement the drone display with ground-based, close-range pyrotechnics mounted away from dense spectator areas to comply with fallout and safety requirements.
Stalder explained that the hybrid approach addresses past challenges finding an off-site launch area and allows the program to be repeated in future years with fewer site constraints. He said the drone-and-pyro mix will be similar in impact to the smaller-scale fireworks used at recent local graduations but will include a longer drone program.
The presentation also noted that the Animax splash pad opened and will be available daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; staff reminded attendees of the Stars and Stripes program and other summer activities. The council received the update with no formal vote required.
