Lockhart Police report: three misdemeanor marijuana arrests in latest Lockhart Freedom Act quarterly report

The Lockhart Police Department reported three misdemeanor marijuana arrests during the most recent Lockhart Freedom Act quarterly reporting period, Police Chief Gary Williamson told the council.
"The Lockhart Police Department continues to implement sections of the Lockhart Freedom Act that are not in conflict with state and federal law," Chief Williamson said, listing evidence-handling protocols, codified officer discretion in low-level marijuana cases and public transparency through quarterly reporting.
Williamson said the department’s chart in the packet shows three actual arrests; two of those arrests involved other drugs, and one arrest without an asterisk was for failure to identify. He said other incidents resulted in citations for possession of drug paraphernalia in lieu of marijuana possession arrests. When queried about last quarter’s numbers, Williamson said the count was similar and remained fewer than four misdemeanor marijuana arrests for less than four ounces of leafy marijuana.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the reporting period and monthly breakdowns; Williamson confirmed this was the second quarterly report and that part of the packet displays data for March. No formal action was taken; the chief said the department will return with the next quarterly report.
