The Garrett County Board of Education recorded the following formal actions March 11:
Makeup day approved: The board voted to use Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a makeup instructional day to replace a previously scheduled makeup date disrupted by inclement weather. The motion to adopt June 12, 2025, passed after a motion by Board member Don and a second by Board member Rodney; members voted in favor by voice.
2025–26 calendar adopted: The board adopted the 2025–26 academic calendar with a post‑Labor Day start (Sept. 2, 2025). Superintendent McCourt recommended the calendar. An amendment to make Veterans Day a non‑instructional day was proposed and tied 2–2, and thus failed; the final calendar motion passed 3–1.
Other items presented but not voted on tonight included draft updates to communicable disease, opiate response (naloxone), AED policies and a first read of science instructional materials; those will return for action at a future meeting.
