The Milan Area Schools Board of Education voted 7–0 May 20 to appoint Brandy Ignani as principal of Paddock Elementary School, effective June 1, 2025.
Assistant Superintendent Brian McMahon described the hiring process to the board: the district conducted a screening interview, two formal interview rounds (each about an hour) including staff participation, and building walkthroughs with administrators. McMahon said staff were heavily involved in shaping interview questions and providing input.
"She comes to this with, like, 10 years experience, elementary, middle school teaching, instructional coaching," McMahon said. He added that Ignani’s strength in coaching and in implementing academic and social‑emotional programs distinguished her in the selection process.
Superintendent Gearbaugh and board members welcomed Ignani at the meeting; administrators said Ignani would be able to begin work before the end of the school year to meet staff and students.
Why it matters: The principal is the day‑to‑day instructional leader at an elementary school. The board noted the selection process included staff input and multiple interview stages and called the hire the result of a competitive recruitment.
Next steps: Human Resources was tasked with completing hiring paperwork and onboarding procedures before the June 1 start date.
