Fire department reports eight calls; mobile radio install and vehicle inspections underway

The council heard a report on the Grama Fire Department’s recent activity and readiness measures. Councilmember Karen Caldwell presented the department’s monthly summary.
“There were 8 calls. And of those calls, 4 were medical, 3 structural, 1 fire unknown,” Caldwell said, and she added that “3 were inside city limits, and 5 were outside city limits.” The department noted training is proceeding as planned and that mobile radio installation work will begin in February; the council previously approved funding for those radios.
Caldwell said members submitted documentation to the county fire marshal to allow them to operate in county areas and on wildland incidents. She reported that the county brush truck, city brush truck, both engines and both tenders had received state inspections “to ensure safe vehicles and part of the requirements for the MOU with the county and state for wildfires and emergency assistance calls.”
The department also listed weather-related preparedness: clearing drains and ditches for spring run-off and cautions about thin ice on ponds and rivers. On equipment needs, Caldwell said one engine needs tires and that she will bring bid results to the next council meeting.
No formal action or vote was taken on the fire report during the meeting; the report was accepted as informational.
