Commission staff outlined several upcoming events and outreach efforts intended to engage pilots, tenants and the public.
Staff said the Tennessee Airports Conference will be held in March at the Murfreesboro Embassy Suites and that the commission will send representatives. The commission was told the Lancair Owners and Builders Organization plans to bring about 30'40 aircraft for a national gathering at the airport in October, and staff hopes the event will recur biennially.
Other community- and customer-oriented events mentioned included a Steam Fest event on October 18, a photos-with-Santa event scheduled for Nov. 16 and possible customer gatherings such as a chili cook-off, an Oshkosh planning meet for EAA members, and a fuel farm usage training day. Staff suggested three signature events for the year: a winter chili cook-off, an EAA Oshkosh planning meeting in summer, and a November holiday gathering.
"The Lancair Owners and Builders Organization is gonna have, what is it, 30, 40 aircraft, something like that here, for a little national, gathering for them," Vincent Chad said. "So we'll see how we do this first year entertaining them. But, it's a nice little revenue producer for us."
Staff said they will place events on the airport calendar and circulate dates to commissioners; no formal decisions or budget commitments were made at the meeting.
