Boca Raton CRA to add two dedicated traffic enforcement officers downtown

CRA staff told the board on March 17 that the agency will add two officers dedicated to traffic and pedestrian safety enforcement in the downtown CRA area, citing recent targeted enforcement and safety concerns.
"We are adding 2 dedicated traffic enforcement officers to the CRA Patrol," CRA Director Mr. Brown told the board. He said one position has already been reallocated so the city can hire immediately if a candidate is available, and the second officer will be added as a line item in the October budget.
Brown said that targeted traffic enforcement between Tuesday and Friday last week produced 76 traffic stops in the downtown area. He also said the CRA currently has six officers assigned to CRA patrol duties and that the two new positions will be focused strictly on traffic and pedestrian safety enforcement and funded by the CRA.
Board members asked clarification questions about existing duties and whether the new assignments would reduce other enforcement types. Brown said the new officers would be dedicated to traffic enforcement; general law enforcement duties would continue to be handled by other officers as needed.
There was no formal board vote recorded on this staffing decision at the March 17 meeting. The board and staff described the change as an administrative staffing and budgeting action that will be implemented by city personnel and the CRA budget process.
