Commission OKs zone change at West Wall Street for gas station and convenience store

The Midland Planning and Zoning Commission voted 7-0 to rezone a 0.994-acre tract at the intersection of West Wall Street and South Midkiff Road (3601 West Wall Street) to Regional Retail (RR), allowing a Murphy's-branded gas station and convenience store proposal to move forward.
Planner Madeline Mohawk presented the request submitted by Maverick Engineering and said the property is currently zoned RR in part and C (Commercial) in part; the proposal would make the entire parcel RR. Mohawk said surrounding uses include gas stations, fast-food restaurants, a gym and motel, and that the Tall City Tomorrow plan designates the site a Special Study Area; staff concluded the request is compatible with surrounding uses and recommended approval. The preliminary plan associated with the request was scheduled for the same meeting.
No public objections were received. Commissioner Sparks moved to approve the rezoning; Commissioner Martin seconded and the motion carried 7-0. With the recommendation, the applicant may proceed with the preliminary plan and permitting steps required by the city.
