The United Nations reported that recent attacks in Ukraine have caused dozens of civilian casualties, including among children, and damaged homes, schools and energy infrastructure, affecting power supplies in multiple regions.
The spokesperson said authorities and partners reported strikes primarily affecting Dnipro, Donetsk and Kharkiv in the east and Odesa and Kherson in the south. Aid workers delivered shelter materials, emergency repair kits and hygiene supplies, and provided psychosocial support, the briefing added.
The UN said sustained attacks over the past three years on Ukraine's energy sector, including missile strikes, cyberattacks and damage to a hydroelectric power plant, have severely affected generation, transmission and distribution. "In 2024 alone, there were 13 large scale strikes which significantly impacted Ukraine's power generation capacity," the spokesperson said.
Why it matters: damage to energy infrastructure affects civilian life, healthcare, water supply and winter heating, and sustained attacks complicate humanitarian response and recovery.
The UN is coordinating with partners to respond to immediate needs and to repair infrastructure where possible, the briefing said.
