In closed Security Council consultations on the secretary-general's implementation report, the UN was briefed by the special coordinator for Lebanon and the under-secretary-general for peace operations, the spokesperson said. When asked about reported Israeli occupation of what some documents called "buffer zones" inside Lebanese territory, the spokesperson said the UN emphasized the importance that "all parties abide fully by the cessation of hostilities agreement" and take steps to ensure the agreement remains in effect.
Why it matters: implementation of the ceasefire and adherence to the Blue Line are central to preventing renewed cross-border fighting and enabling displaced people to return safely.
The UN told reporters it seeks clarity and compliance with the agreement's terms and said the priority is "to make sure that people on both sides of the blue line can return to their homes in safety and security," the spokesperson added.
