CB2 committee approves temporary protective barriers for West Houston bike lane to improve access to Hudson River Park Greenway

Janine Kylie, who presented the item, described the final block before the Greenway as “particularly precarious” because turning trucks and cars squeeze the narrow bike lane. She said riders sometimes dismount and walk the block to avoid conflict with turning vehicles. Kylie asked the committee to back temporary barriers—such as construction barricades or corridor planters—that would clearly delineate the bike lane and prevent vehicle encroachment.
Committee members and attendees voiced support. Janine’s request was framed as a short-term safety measure while more permanent engineering solutions are studied and designed.

The committee approved the request during business session and asked DOT to consider types of short-term protections that could be placed quickly.
