Finney County waives $2-per-ton landfill fee for city and county spring cleanups

The Finney County Board of Commissioners approved waiving the $2-per-ton municipal waste fee to support spring-cleanup events organized by the cities of Garden City and Holcomb and for county residents on two April Fridays.
Leah Quinones of Finney County Public Works asked the board to waive the fee for the City of Garden City cleanup (March 31–April 11 event window referenced in the staff memo) and the City of Holcomb cleanup scheduled for April 4 and April 11. Quinones said the county has waived the fee for these cleanups in the past and that Waste Connections remits the $2-per-ton fee to the county on a quarterly basis.
A commissioner moved and the board seconded approval of the staff recommendation; the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said the waiver will also apply to county residents hauling unwanted items to the landfill on April 4 and April 11, and that the county will publicize the dates on its website and to homeowner associations.
Quinones said the county will not place rollout containers this year (a previous practice) and that the Public Works office and GIS staff had prepared advertising materials for the outreach.
