Walsh County campground manager details plumbing, staffing and reservation challenges ahead of season

Susan reported that online reservations via RoverPass significantly increased season‑pass revenue (she said season passes brought in about $3,340 this past year) and that installing cameras reduced observed criminal activity during busy months. She asked the county to increase advertising so residents and visitors know the park operates as a campground and to support recruitment of a camp host or interim contracted bathroom cleaners so facilities can open on schedule.
Commissioners and staff discussed options including temporary contracted cleaners for bathrooms, use of 4‑H and school volunteer groups for trash cleanups and upgrading the park’s camera and security lines. Staff said the request for campground maintenance/host advertising is in process and that some interim requests (water turn‑on, site cleanup) will require county crew and scheduling. Susan said she expects to move out of the on‑site trailer by May and asked for patience while she completes the move and recovers from a medical issue; commissioners asked staff to prioritize removal of any animals and hazardous items from the site and to ensure public safety.
The board did not take formal action beyond directing staff to continue recruitment and operational planning; commissioners requested regular updates at future meetings until a long‑term host or contract arrangement is in place.
