County staff presented the proposal, saying AbilityWorks personnel have experience building picnic tables and performing grounds work and offered to assist with trash pickup at no cost beyond transportation. The board approved transferring a county van (previously used for a related program) to the road department for transportation, and authorized creation of a staff position to manage and supervise the team. Staff said the program would stage from the convention center as a drop-off point and use an existing county trailer for the work.
Supervisors asked that program tasks avoid high-traffic highway work and instead be limited to safe locations and residential areas. The motion to transfer the van, use the trailer and create the supervisory position passed by voice vote.
Ending: The board approved the vehicle transfer and position creation; staff will finalize the contractual agreement and daily supervision plan and begin scheduling AbilityWorks crews for safe pickup assignments.
