Graham County declares April 2025 "Week of the Young Child"

She also identified Donna McGaughey and Dustin Welker as volunteers on the local First Things First council and brought children’s books for board members to read to young children in the community.
The board moved to approve the proclamation and the motion passed by voice vote. The proclamation text recognizes the role of early care and education from birth to age 5, names First Things First and related early‑childhood organizations, and urges citizens to support and invest in early care and education in the Graham‑Greenlee region.
The board read the proclamation aloud and agreed to sign it; board members and the presenter planned a photo after the meeting.
The proclamation does not create a new program or budget appropriation; it is a formal recognition intended to raise awareness about early childhood services and the work of local and state early‑childhood organizations.
