1202 Connor Lane return: case manager says talks about community center purchase ongoing but no joint meeting held

The Planning and Zoning Commission on May 19 heard an update on the return of 1202 Connor Lane, where the property's owner and nearby neighbors were in attendance, Case Manager Shelby told commissioners at the work session.

Shelby said staff updated the commission and attempted to facilitate a meeting between the applicant and people advocating for a community center on or near the property. "I was informed that there was going to be a meeting with city manager's office to kind of discuss, the interest in the community center," Shelby said, adding that no joint meeting with all parties had occurred since the previous commission discussion. "That's pretty much the update. I haven't haven't really gotten any more information since then; we haven't had a a joint meeting with everyone."

Why it matters: neighbors and the property owner were present for the agenda item's return, indicating continued local interest. Shelby advised commissioners that further questions about negotiations should be directed to the people who spoke at the previous meeting and to the applicant.

The staff report for the case was updated before the meeting, Shelby said; she offered to refer detailed procedural or negotiation questions to the case file and to the applicant. No formal motion, vote or binding council or commission decision was recorded on 1202 Connor Lane at the May 19 work session.

A separate procedural note at the work session recorded that an affidavit to abstain had been received for agenda item FY25-13-ZC; the commission did not take further action on that affidavit during the work session.
