Tax assessor reports 2.5% assessed‑value growth for 2025; board adopts schedule for public protests

Norman Kennedy, Madison County tax assessor, presented the county’s preliminary 2025 tax roll on July 7 and told the Board of Supervisors the roll shows continued growth in assessed value.

Kennedy reported combined assessed values for classes of real and personal property that produced a preliminary total assessed value the assessor read aloud as approximately $2,000,280,793; he said that figure reflects an increase of about $77,200,000 (roughly 2.5 percent) compared with the 2024 roll. Kennedy said the roll currently lists 58,698 real‑property parcels and about 5,055 personal‑property accounts; his office processed 3,075 homestead exemption applications between Jan. 1 and April 1.

Kennedy noted the statutory filing and affidavit requirements under Mississippi Code §27‑35‑81 and made the tax rolls available for public inspection in the chancery building as required.

Following the presentation, Supervisor Brandon moved (with a second) that the board acknowledge receipt of the real and personal property tax rolls for 2025, adopt and enter the July order, authorize equalization at each July board meeting, and set Aug. 4, 2025, as the date the board will consider objections to the rolls. The board voted to adopt the proposed schedule and to accept the assessor’s affidavits and draft recapitulation sheet.

Ending: The county clerk will advertise the Aug. 4 protest date in the Madison County Journal and make the roles available for public inspection; the board will consider written protests on the scheduled date.
