Board members asked staff to add a discussion about expediting panels or hearings when a complaint is filed within a certain number of days before an election. The chair and several members said tightening time frames for complaint processing would reduce the harm of politically timed filings.
Members also asked staff to report on the logistics and scheduling of a possible joint meeting with city council so both bodies could discuss expectations and communications. Staff said a joint meeting would need to be posted for both bodies and that the mayor would preside. Staff offered to raise the idea with the council—s agenda committee and report back; the board asked for that status in a future management report.
The board agreed to bring the suggested items back for fuller discussion at its next meeting, and staff confirmed they would prepare redlines and timelines where applicable.
