Turf replacement at Sports Park ahead of schedule; Heroes Park renovation to begin

Recreation staff said synthetic turf replacement on Sports Park Fields A and B is ahead of schedule and that a CIP renovation at Heroes Park (Fields 1 and 4) will start next week and run through mid-August.
Recreation Manager Laura Hunter told the commission the synthetic turf replacement at Lake Forest Sports Park began May 27 and crews have already completed work on Field A.
"As of this last Tuesday, May 27, the synthetic turf project began at the sports park on both Fields A and B," Hunter said. She reported Field A’s turf has been installed and will be secured for the remainder of the week while crews paint lines for lacrosse and soccer and apply sideline markings. Work on Field B is scheduled to begin the following week; Hunter said the overall two-month project is running ahead of schedule.
Hunter described significant construction logistics, including closure of the roundabout for large truck deliveries and use of forklifts to move supplies. She said the contractor is filming progress and that staff can provide periodic photos to the commission.
Hunter also briefed commissioners on an upcoming CIP project at Heroes Park affecting Fields 1 and 4. The project includes a new irrigation system, field grading and leveling, a warning track, seed and sod, new fencing and installation of Musco LED lighting. Hunter said parking at Heroes Park will be restricted during construction and suggested viewing the work from the golf-course parking area; the Heroes Park work is expected to take the remainder of the summer and be done by mid-August.
Commissioners asked for before-and-after photos and thanked staff for coordinating the projects. No formal commission action was required; staff said they will provide construction photos and an update at the August meeting.
