Lake Forest begins security patrols at Sports Park, citing e-bike disturbances

Recreation Manager Laura Hunter told the commission on June 4 that a contracted security service began patrols at Lake Forest Sports Park on Monday, June 2, to deter disturbances and address reckless e-bike use.
“The security service started this week, Monday, June 2,” Hunter said. She told commissioners the patrol schedule is tentatively Monday through Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and that the hours may be adjusted based on park traffic.
Hunter said security personnel will conduct checks, document observations, and “apprehend and communicate with reckless e-bikers,” and that staff will contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department when necessary. Staff will compile incidents and other statistics into a monthly report; Hunter said those reports will begin in August 2025.
Hunter reported that security staff were present at a recent farmers market at the sports park and that staff are checking in with the security provider at the beginning and end of every shift. Commissioners praised the presence of security as having a “toning down” effect on problematic behavior but did not take any formal action; staff will continue to monitor park activity and adjust patrol hours as needed.
