Council approves North Fire Station renovations using LOSIP funds

He said $468,000 is available in LOSIP funds for this purpose and that the project will use approximately $417,000 of those funds, leaving a remaining LOSIP balance.
Fire Department leadership and Director Seer described the work: roof and dormer repairs where leaks were reported, replacement of at least one window, new finishes and fixtures in men's bunk/bath areas that have not been upgraded in decades, upgraded showers and bathrooms, new flooring and painting through dorm and common areas, and installation of split‑unit HVAC systems similar to other stations. The chief said the renovations include modest privacy separations in the bunk area to improve living conditions.
Councilor Peck, who pulled the item for comment, said she had visited the North Station and supported improving living and working conditions for firefighters. Councilors asked about logistics during construction; staff said firefighters will shift temporarily into adjacent rooms at the station and use a downstairs bathroom during the work, and the department will manage operations so response capabilities are maintained.
The council approved the LOSIP application/award motion on the consent agenda; the director stated that after state review the city will submit required project documentation to LOSIP for final approval and that the work is consistent with previous station renovation projects.
